Elgg Learning Landscape

Deep learning: “…learning that promotes the development of conditionalized knowledge and metacognition through communities of inquiry, this can further enhance with the advent of ‘knowledge rooms’, areas of cyberspace that allow students to collaborate” (http://teachopolis.org/library/deep_learning.htm)

In doing some research for a presentation I ran across a very interesting open source product. The product is called Elgg Learning Landscape. The concept behind the system is to develop a fully customizable learning landscape. To achieve this Elgg is a hybrid of weblogging, e-portfolios and social networking. elgg tool overviewThe designers Ben Werdmuller and David Tosh hope this combination of features will provide an engaging environment for learners to create their own learning space and then connect to others, forming online communities of learning.

You may want to do what I did and create an account on the Elgg system to test drive the product.
