Using the Group Pages

Instructors set up group spaces as virtual collaboration areas for online students. Some of the benefits of this type of space are:

  • Only students assigned to the group can access the space
  • Groups can exchange project files, use virtual chat functions, and create discussion boards that are restricted to their members

Accessing Group Pages

    Blackboard select group page

  1. Click on the "Communications" link located on the left-hand-side of the course screen.
  2. Next, click on the "Group Pages" link.
  3. Click on the link to the group to which you have been assigned.

  5. Access the tools provided for your work group.

If you are not sure how to use the group tools, please review the File Exchange instructions noted below, as well as the Discussion board and Email tutorials.

Group File Exchange

This portion of the tutorial teaches you how to share and save files in your group work area.

  1. Access your work group through the "Group Pages" link located in the Communications area of the course.
  2. After clicking on the link to your work group, click on the "File Exchange" link.

Sharing a File with Other Group Members

Click on the [Add File] button.

  1. Type a descriptive name for the file in the "Title" box.
  2. Click on the [Browse] button to locate the file on a floppy disk, Zip disk, CD-Rom, jump-drive, desktop or hard drive. A windows file menu will be presented.
    • Navigate to where the file is stored.
    • Double-click on the file name to select it.
    • Then, click on the [OK] button.
  3. Next, click the [Submit] button.
To open and save a file from the group area
  1. Click on the file title to open the file
  2. Select "Save As" from the File menu
  3. Navigate to the folder where you would like to save the file
  4. Then click the [Save] button

OR

  1. Click on the file title with the right mouse button. A Windows popup menu will be presented.
  2. Select "Save Target As" or "Save File As"
  3. Navigate to the folder where you would like to save the file
  4. Then click the [Save] button
