A Blended Learning Model for Faculty Development

This was a great presentation involving faculty, staff, and students from Baylor University . The primary presenter, Bill Campbell, presented on how he uses The New Media Reader by Noah Wardrip-Fruin and Nick Montfort for a Freshman Media and Society course and for a Faculty/Staff book group.  Running concurrently, the students and the faculty/staff group meet together at least once during the term to compare perspectives and discuss their “take” on the articles contained within the book.

In the Faculty/Staff book group, the group meets once a week to discuss the weeks readings but they are also required to blog about the experience, their impressions of the articles, etc as a way to reflect on integration of media into the human experience.

The interesting thing is that other institutions are now also participating in the book group experience holding sessions at their campuses and then blogging the experience for all to see.
