Exploring the iTunesU Course Manager

The iTunesU course manager allows faculty to create individual courses with restricted enrollment.

Using Course Manager you can:

  • Create an instructor profile
  • Create and edit both private and public in-session and self-paced courses
  • Create and edit course outlines
  • Create posts and add assignments for students
  • Add your own files as materials or reference iBooks, iOS Apps, and other iTunes Store materials (iBook, video, pdf, audio, text file, etc. )
  • Customize course overview information
  • Customize your instructor profile
  • Use the Share button in the dashboard to preview and share your courses
  • Use the roster to manage student enrollment in your private courses (max of 50 students per course — course can be duplicated for larger classes and managed from the same course shell)

Application Requirements

  • Safari version 5.1 or later for Mac or Windows or Firefox version 13.0.1 or later for Mac or Windows.
  • An Apple ID. If you do not have an Apple ID, see My Apple ID to create a new Apple ID.
    Note: Apple recommends an Apple ID that was previously used to sign in to the iTunes Store, iBookstore, or App Store. For more information, see Using an existing Apple ID with the iTunes Store and Mac App Store at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2589.
  • Instructor images must be at least 300 x 300 pixels.
  • Course images must be at least 600 x 600 pixels.
  • Instructor and course images in JPEG or PNG format with appropriate file extensions (.jpg, .png) and a maximum file size of 10MB.
  • Maxumum course size 20GB.

General Instructions

To create a course go to https://itunesu.itunes.apple.com/coursemanager/

 

Once you have created an account in the iTunesU Course Manager a message containing links to user materials will be sent to the email account associated with your iTunes ID.

 

When you are ready to make the course available, click the [Share Course] button. That click gives you an ‘Enroll Code’ and a URL. It looks/works exactly like a redemption code. You email the code to the students and they can use it at iTunesU to ‘Enroll’.

When the student ‘Enrolls’, they will receive the materials through iTunesU. The ‘courses’ and enclosed documents are protected through Apple’s DRM [Digital Rights Management].
