Random Thoughts on Instructional Design

Has education come full circle?

Education started with the Socratic process then morphed into the standard lectures and in the last decade migrated from “student based learning:  to “active learning”. In this decade higher education is migrating from closed learning environments to applied learning and open learning environments (provides a link to a timeline on MOOCs that I created wit Timeline JS).  Within the last few years educational systems have also started migrating from standard textbooks to mobile content delivery and oral presentations of materials. (see “A Brief History of Technology Enhanced Learning” for a timeline of events)  Have we come full circle in education, or are we in the verge of an educational tsunami?
